Mumbai. Mafia. Murders.
This is a beaten track. Overused to its most extreme.
Murshid follows a retired mafia don, Kay Kay Menon, who is forced to come out of retirement to save his son from being killed. He goes after the current don, played by Zakir Hussain, who is an unprincipled and despicable man. Murshid, on the other hand, is a model Muslim, large-hearted, man of his word and holds influence upon Muslims. Local politics is thrown in for good measure. Crass simplification is the order of the day in such dramas. They treat Muslim community as vote banks or worse, pack of sheep. This is now it works in real life. But who would make these foolish film-makers understand.
All in all, the series is watchable despite its flaws. In mere seven episodes, the whole story is told. One has to admire its editing. But the show is all about the great Kay Kay Menon. You cannot take your eyes off him.
