Vishwamitra - Mukesh Khanna in the Eponymous Role

Vishwamitra (1995 TV series)

Mukesh Khanna is a larger than life actor. With his stature and deep baritone, he has made this powerful role as his own. The serial covers Vishwamitra's early days as the ruler of Mahodaya as Vishwarath, his faceoff with Vashisht over the ownership of cow Nandini , his defeat and resolution to become a Brahmarshi, his tapasya and mentorship of Trishanku, his excesses towards Harishchandra and his family and the story of Maneka, Shakuntala, Dushyant and Bharat.
These are very beautiful chapters on Hindu mythology and make the serial quite memorable.
Arun Govil as Harishchandra, Virendra Razdan as Kanva , Arvind Trivedi as  Trishanku and Shantipriya as Shakuntala have given great performances.
Watch Vishwamitra if you have love in Indian mythology.

  1. I have seen this series in my childhood and agree with your review but I am against the use of word “mythology”.

    1. there is no other word to describe these events. Besides, mythology is not a 'bad' word per se.
