FRENZY - A Routine Hitchcockean Fare

 FRENZY 1972

by

Alfred Hitchcock

FRENZY was Hitchock's penultimate film , and marked the return of the great man to the familiar territory of murder . It was shot in England.

For various reasons Michael Caine, Helen Mirren and Vladimir Nabokov turned down offers to be associated with the film.

It is the story of a neck-tie strangler, a serial killer who gets an ex-RAF officer implicated for his crimes. There is rape, murders, treachery, desperation in ample measure. Circumstantial evidence is deemed enough to send the Sq Leader to jail. But in desperation he reaches the hospital and makes good his escape seeking revenge.

There are some humourous moments between the Chief Detective and his wife, but the overall, the film is dark and typically Hitchcockean.

Frenzy might not be a great film but is certainly a good one. John Finch, Barry Foster and Alec McCowen have given good performances.
