Mahabharat Katha - 45 Additional Episodes

MAHABHARAT KATHA

(TV Series available on ytube)

Forty-five half-hour episodes were directed by Ravi Chopra in mid 1990s after 94 episodes of the Mahabharat were telecast between 1988-90.

These episodes pertain to the Pandavas’ reign in Indraprastha, Barbarik’s arrival for the War, Arjuna’s peace missions to Nagalok and Manipur and the preparations for the Ashvamedha Yagya after the War. These are the stories of Ghatotkacha’s sons Barbarik and Meghvarna, Karna’s son Vrishketu, Arjun’s Liasions with Ulupi and Chitrangada and his sons Iravan and Bhabruvahana.

That Nitish Bhardwaj does not play Krishna is the biggest dampner of the series. All the other characters have reprised their original roles, but it is Rishabh Shukla (Shantanu in the Mahabharat) who is cast as Krishna.

The writing is not as good as the original’s, neither is the pace. But for the lovers of the Epic, this is a good treat.
