DESTROYER 2018
by
Karyn Kusama
The first look of the film itself shook me up.I have been a
big Nicole Kidman fan,and to see her in a very old,wrinkled,worn-out avatar is
quite distressing.
Bu hats off to Kidman. She has gone all out in her portrayal
of a troubled cop, struggling with her past and present, having issues with her
daughter and somehow keeping it all together with the help of alcohol and
pills. One knows she is on the brink of collapse, and this tension remains
throughout the film.
As an undercover cop,she and her lover (also an undercover)
plotted, aided and abetted a robbery. But unfortunately her lover was shot dead
by one of the robber .Nicole gave birth to his daughter, but has since struggled
to adjust. The film is about Nicole seeking her lover’s killer, who has since
resurfaced, and trying to keep her daughter safe and secure.
Nicole is brilliant .Some action sequences warrant
applause. The mood of the film is dark throughout, and the pace is slow. This is a
film for Nicole fans and lovers of neo-noir,not quite a blockbuster material.
