Is Raat Ki Subah Nahin- Gets Better with every Watch

IS RAAT KI SUBAH NAHIN 1996

Nirmal Pandey had a powerful presence, although his dialogue delivery was far from perfect. But the man had swagger and meanness dripping from all his pores. Tara Deshpande shone like an apple, but her acting was far from satisfactory. Smriti Mishra was a like an unopened bud in the film but had a strange, slanting way of staring into the camera. That is what makes this odd trio so watchable; they come across as very awkward and real.

The parallel mafia madness goes on with full intensity. Saurabh Shukla's challenge to Ashish Vidyarthi's supremacy is sharp and vicious. Murad Ali, Sandeep Kulkarni, Virendra Saxena, Manoj Pahwa, Girish Kulkarni have performed with conviction. The madness of the night does not allow for a breather. Songs take the story forward. A bit more of oomph and a tad less reliance on landline phones would have made the film more convincing. I mean the hunted parties have so much time and freedom at their disposal that they could have easily made good on their escape, but do not do so. After Dharavi, Sudhir has taken forward his romance with Mumbai through this film. Is this a great film? That I cannot say. But watchable it certainly is.
