JIGRA - Script fails Alia Bhatt

This film proves that cinema is all make-believe. You can build up a very puny and scrawny Alia Bhatt as the Tomb Raider who can do anything she sets out to. The task at hand- saving her kid brother on death sentence from from a maximum security prison somewhere in SE Asia. She leads a revolutionary mob into prison premises, causes riots and rescues her brother. Hats off to Alia for managing to play this part convincingly.

But the script tests your patience and credulity. In a country where even English speakers are rare, she manages to find many Indians who end up helping her. Manoj Pahwa is in his elements as usual. Vivek Gomber, another Indian, is the prison incharge. He is named Hans Raj Landa, as a tribute to Hans Landa of Inglourious Basterds.

Another sore point is the background music in the film which kills the tone of the film. You don't need chorus during action sequences or escape scenes. But for the pathetic score, the film could have been much darker. Jigra could have had a lot working for it, with Alia in top form, but unfortunately falters as a film.
