Roopanthara (Kannada) - A well-made Anthology film

Roopanthara means Metamorphosis.

An old man in dystopian times narrates four tales under the pain of death. His stories explore themes of pain and death, and how violence is shaped by our psychological make-up. While Mithilesh has written and directed the film, Raj B Shetty has contributed additional dialogues, as well as acted in one of the four stories.

An old village couple visits a city for the first time but the wife falls sick, is admitted and is detected with gall bladder cancer. A female beggar is seen with a good-looking child and is suspected of kidnapping him by bystanders who then take her to police station. A young man, chained to his past involving child abuse by parents, is addicted to Dark Web and wants to get even with the world. A Rowdy (Raj) chases a techie to his home and kills him after a brawl. His finger gets stuck in the mouth of the dead man hardened by rigor mortis. A powerful theme is that stories do not seem to end in traditional sense, life goes on and there is always a possible 'what happened next' question. In case of some stories, we cannot be certain as to what happened beyond a point.

Roopanthara is a good film, but short stories leave you asking for more. That is the whole point.
