Phir Ayi Haseen Dilruba - Pointless sequel to a pointless film

PHIR AYI HASEEN DILRUBA (2024)

Haseen Dilruba created a fictional writer of noir novels named as Dinesh Pandit. Both Taapsee Pannu and Vikrant Massey are his fans, and use his ideas to plot crimes and get away with murder. Part two follows the same idea. But it is one thing to invoke an author's name once or twice, but gets quite lame when Dinesh Pandit's name begins popping up in every tenth dialogue. By the end it gets so hilarious you just wish that the bloody man was a part of the comedy show being played on screen.

That said, the film is not unwatchable. The oomph factor is kept in check. A smooch here, a peck there is all there is on offer. Vikrant Massey is overshadowed by Sunny Kaushal, who might look boy-next-door but has better acting skills. Pannu also keeps is a restrained. Aditya Shrivastava is as reliable as ever. Age has begun to show on Jimmy Shergill, but he always adds value to the proceedings. The film can be watched, because Hindi does beckon. But I hope they do not make another part in this series. And even if they do, spare us the constant invocation of Dinesh Pandit who does not exist.
