LUST STORIES 2 - No OOmph, just Big Talk

 Lust Stories 2 (2023)

#Netflix

Four good directors make short films on lust, but all they end up serving are soggy tales of sex, violence and deprivation. There is no oomph, no titillation. There is an X-rated show on Alt Balaji titled Gandi Baat. That Balaji production provides for joyful watching than these short films which end up taking themselves quite seriously.

Surely they ask some questions, and relevant ones at that. But such is the taboo around sex in our society that it is bound to happen. Yet the whole production seems contrived and fails to enthrall the viewer.

R Balki's segment features an over-the-top, loud and insistent Dadi, played by Nina Gupta, hell bent on pushing her grand-daughter, Mrunal Thakur, to test her fiancee's skills in the bed. Awkward, silly and unrequited, and I must add, too dated as well.

In Konkona's segment, houseowner Tillottama Shome, likes to watch her housemaid, Amruta Subhash, making out with her husband in her own bed, and gets caught while doing so. Both women bicker, but eventually kiss and make up.

Sujoy Ghosh's short film has Vijay Varma, a careerist, drooling over his ex-wife, who he stumbles over after ten years. Tamanna Bhatia tries hard to make it work with her real life beau, but the story fails to engage for the suspense gets lifted too soon because of too many hints.

Amit Sharma's segment sees Kajol attempt at having revenge upon her boisterous and libertine husband, Kumud Mishra, gone awry.

One can watch these as gossips, and forget about them, but these is nothing much to recommend them as good works of art. Kumud  Mishra and Vijay Varma have played good parts, Kajol looks bubbly as ever, and Mrunal Thakur is too cute to handle. Beyond that, there is nothing else to write home about.
