LAWLESS - On the Great Moonshine Conpiracy

 LAWLESS 2012

by

John Hillcoat

Tom Hardy, Chris McGarry and Shia LeBouf play Bondurant brothers who ran a moonshine business in the hills of Virginia during the Prohibition years. Jessica Chastain joins them in their sleepy, beautiful Franklin county. The film focusses on their war with a Special Deputy played by Guy Pearce who tried to shut them down. The film is beautifully shot and told, and has all the thrills of the American mafia genre. Aided by brilliant performances, it is a worthy watch. It is a pity that this good film could not reach the heights of greatness, but hey, some great performances by Hardy, leBouf, Pearce and Chastain are not to be missed.
