TANNA (Vanuatu) - A Beautiful Film on Aborigines of Vanuatu

 TANNA 2015

by

Martin Butler/ Bentley Dean

Tanna was shot entirely on the Island of Vanuatu. This is the story of two youngsters who dare to fall in love, rebel against norms and then elope to make a life for themselves. But they are not able to eke out independent existence, and end up committing suicide.

This forces acceptance of love marriages among the tribes, for life is akin to fire which burns. Survival is the key. The film is beautifully shot, and flows sensibly. Tanna was the Australian entry for the Best Foreign Film Oscar, made it to final five nominations, but ultimately lost out.
