ANEK - One Sided-Narrative, Almost a Rant against the Indian State

 ANEK 2022

North-East is complicated. Ethno-religious identities, combined with the complications of race, regionalism and terrain affect peace, or lack of it, in the seven sisters. China plays its role, as does smuggling and human trafficking. Food habits are different, and peculiar, from the rest of the country. The region lags behind the rest of the country in terms of development. The feeling of 'otherness' exists to this day.

Anek exploits these sentiments, and presents the Indian state as unqualified evil. Ayushman Khurana sleepwalks through the role of a conscientious spy. Manoj Pahwa and Kumud Mishra play the Intel chief and the Leader respectively. They are good actors, but what do they do without any meat in their roles. JD Chakravarthy gets noticed in a cameo. The NE'ers are in cliched roles. Anubhav Sinha tries to feast on victimhood, but fails to connect. There is no fizz in this film, and hence it fizzles out.
