The French Dispatch - The Marvellous Mr. Wes Anderson

The French Dispatch of the Liberty, Kansas Evening Sun 2021

by

Wes Anderson

The editor of the French Dispatch is dead. With him the magazine is slated to die, as per his will. One last farewell edition shall appear, and then everything wound off.

The film is centred on the four articles and the obituary that appeared in the last edition. The stories are based in the fictional town of Ennui-sur-Blase. Owen Wilson provides a brief tour of the town as the Cycling reporter.

Benecia del Toro, Adrian Brody, Lea Sydoux, Tilda Swinton, Ed Norton, Frances McDormand,Mathieu Almaraic and others star in this class act. The film is conceived as a tribute to star reporters of the New Yorker. It is a masterpiece because words are pregnant with import, and writing is just top class. The visuals transport you to France-of-the-sixties, and the narrative flows like an animated dream. Music is just top class.

The French Dispatch speaks Anderson's trademark film language. Watch it to get awed by the power of words, and for the love of genre-defying cinema.
