LONDON 1666 - A Recreation of the Great Fire

 LONDON 1666 (BBC Programme)

London in 1666 was recovering from the after-effects of the Great Plague in 1665, which had killed 80000 people, that is a sixth of the population. Wars with Holland and France were ongoing. Charles II had been restored six years back. The Great Fire began from a bakery, and carried on for four days. The extinguishing and control efforts were quite delayed and insufficient. There is no estimate as to how many died, but a large part of the city got burnt down.

Artichoke, a large-scale artistic collaborative, hired David Best, a burn artist, to reimagine the skyline and recreate the whole accident in a public event on the 350th anniversary.
