WINDFALL - Plemons Predictably Shines

 WINDFALL 2022

by

Charlie McDowell

Three people are forced into an inescapable, closed ecosystem. Their varying energy levels and thought processes rub and bounce off each other and create a simmering cauldron.

Jesse Plemons is a billionaire CEO who has made his fortune by writing an algo that helps companies decide if they wanna shut shop or lay off staff. His wife, Lily Collins, previously an assistant, now helps with charity. Jason Segal is a robber performing a robbery, but is surprised by the sudden arrival of the couple. There is a standoff which results in a hostage drama.

The film works till the hurried climax because Plemons lends it soul. Lily could have been a tad more intense. Segal has no locus standi as an actor or the character. He fucks this film up, which could have been much better.
