Everyone should be able to work, if they want. Society must not put impediments in the way. Tradition, religion, family honour should not have any concern with work. If there are shackles, break free. That is the message of GIK.

Suraj VEnjaramood and Nimisha Sajayan had paired up in Thondimuthulum Driksakshiyum and performed magic. GIK is the magic reprised. It is like they have Saat Janam ka Naata or some crap like that. Suresh Babu is great as the nagging FIL.

The film is about confining women inside the kitchen, and expecting her to do the domestic chores without any thought to her well-being or quality of life. Nimisha grapples with this workload, and filth. But her periods bring out the worst in her husband and FIL. She is locked in a room, to be kept of sight and touch. This is much too ignominy to bear.

The marriage also turns out to be loveless. She is not allowed to work, or to express her mind. Her husband and FIL decide to proceed to Sabarimala and perform 40 days penance. All this takes a toll on her, and she finds it unbearable.

Ultimately she leaves her house behind, and dumps her husband to become a teacher.
