The Green Mile - Miracles in a Jail Block

 The Green Mile 1999

Michael Clarke Duncan plays James Coffey , a man convicted of twin rape and murder. He arrives at the Green Mile where Tom Hanks is the man in charge of the Execution Mile. Then begin the miracles performed by John Coffey who cures Hanks of his urinal infection, saves a squished-up Mr Jingles (rat) and cures the warden's wife of a tumour.

This is a brilliantly directed film in which everything falls into place.IT was nominated for four Academy Awards including Best Film, best supporting actor (Duncan) and best adapted screenplay. The film is based on Stephen King's novel of the same name. With excellent cinematography and marvelous acting, the film is  just a treat to savour. It does raise several questions about miracles and life, but does not get preachy or judgemental.

On capital punishment, its depiction of the electric chair punishments is shocking to say the least. One of the executions is simply mind-blowing, and must be one of the most powerful cinematic scenes ever shot.
