PHOTOGRAPH 2019
by
Sanya Malhotra gave
a power-packed performance in Dangal, and then went totally over-the-top in
mindblowing Patakha. After that ,she has delivered two masterclasses in
underplay- Badhai Ho and Photograph.
Sanya plays a C.A. aspirant who develops a very tender and
beautiful relationship with a struggling photographer, Nawazuddin Siddique.
Along with the two protagonists, the city of Mumbai also plays an important role in the film.
Ritesh has made three beautiful films earlier- The
Lunchbox, The Sense of an Ending and Our Souls At Night. Photograph is similar in
tone and rhythm ,but RB gets a tad too caught up with his own obsession with
the unsaid and unheard here.
Mention must also be made of Vijay raaz ,who just captures
your attention in a very brief appearance. Surprisingly ,even Nawaz is not in
his elements. He is authentic, but too much silence is difficult to embrace.
This is where I feel Irrfan scores over Nawaz. But that is just my view !
Photograph is a good film, but not quite Lunchbox. And yet
it is a treat to watch. Watch it for Sania and Nawaz, and of course for Ritesh.
