COLD WAR - Hiatus & Passion Between Lovers

COLD WAR 2018
(Polish: Zimna Vojna )
by
Pawel Pawlikovsky

This saga of two lovers, both united in their Polish roots and deep-seated passion for each other, but separated often by boundaries, ambition , levels of patience and expectations takes place between 1940s and 1960s.

Action primarily takes place in Warsaw, Paris and Yugolslavia. What better way to give this a period feel than shoot this in lux black and white and place reliance upon jazz, wine and cigarettes.

But this film has Tomasz Kot and Joana Kulig, and its their tempestuous chemistry that raises the film above its visually stark style. The duo singe the screen with passion, and convince the audience of how all this might just be true.

Pawlikovsky’s IDA won the Best Foreign Film Oscar in 2013. Cold War was also nominated but didn’t win. Pawlikovsky was nominated in the Best Director category. At 88 minutes, the film is a cracker !
