TRAPPED 2016
BY
VIKRAMADITYA MOTWANE
Rajkumar Rao gets trapped inside a derelict flat in Mumbai. He was looking forward to running away with his girlfriend who was slated to get
married the next day, and shift inside this affordable flat which was lying
vacant due to legal issues.
His mobile gets discharged; electricity gets shut and there seems
to be no way out of this trap. This is a survival drama which points towards the
urban loneliness of a modern immigrant in Mumbai. Life goes on without RK. His
girlfriend assumes he has developed cold feet and bailed out on her and gets
married the next day. His colleagues don’t miss his presence at work. He is not
missed at all.
The film has some glorious moments, especially dealing with
RK’s struggles with food and water. His attempts at eating cockroach and killing
and cooking pigeon as well as storing rainwater reminds one of Robinson Crusoe. Only this is a flat my friend, an urban island, and poor guy is a blue-collar worker, not a sailor.
RK is the heart and soul of this film. It is his vulnerable
personality which makes the film a memorable watch.
