Murder by Numbers 2002

There is no suspense, not a hunt, nor is there even a proper chase. It's only some terrific
performances by Sandra Bullock, Ryan Gosling and Ben Chaplain that make this
film worth watching.
Two college friends plan a perfect murder, but falter on even
basic details thereby making assess of themselves. A cop, battling her demons, picks their scent right from the start. Her partner, who she seduces and
then pushes away, is a steadier and more sensible cop.
Ryan Gosling has been one of my favourites since early
days. The promise was visible right from the start. Sandra Bullock has played her
role of a tough cop with aplomb. Ben Chaplain is someone who I discovered in Mad
Men. He looks sedate and calm here in comparison, almost like an extra. Somewhere down the line he must have rediscovered himself.
A decent film if you are a suck for cop films. But a
disappointment if you want to watch a thriller or a mystery.
