BODYGUARD TV SERIES (UK)
NETFLIX
This six part series is the current rage in UK,and across
Netflix. The first three episodes do live upto the hype, then it gradually
fizzles out.
Is the series a tad too long ?
Is it too apologetic about Moslems being part of terror
plots ?
Does it go out of its way to link white men and
ex-servicemen with terror plots ?
Does it falter because of a plotting mistake ?
Keeley Hawes plays the Home Secretary, who is quite hawkish and
right-leaning,and pushes through her bill assailing civil liberties following a
foiled terror attack in the London metro.A very stiff Richard Madden ,an
ex-serviceman plays her Bodyguard, and his politics clashes with the Home Secy’s
views. He also suffers fro PTSD,but braves on nevertheless.
Their chemistry and her politics are what drive the show
with passion. Then she is bumped off midway in a terrorist attack, and that is where the
series loses its soul.
Europe is having a lot of trouble in handling their
Moslems.IT is quite a tightrope walk between political correctness and the
reality of jihad. How to accommodate jihadists within their apologetic liberal
framework is what flummoxes the Europeans .This will take some time in getting
resolves.By then it wud be too late.
The series works, but is not quite on par with the best of
shows. It is good, but not great. It is not very significant either.
