Samanthu Prabhu must be the cutest girl in India.I must have
seen her Hitachi ad a million times,and yet she never fails to evoke a joyful smile
with her expressions.The idea of her love of life being murdered in cold blood
by a psychopath,a secret, obsessive admirer of hers is quite harrowing.The
lover is a cipher here,more relevant in death and reincarnation than he ever
was alive.Sudip is a perfect villain.Tall,dark,mean,handsome,filthy
rich,ambitious,bereft of any kind of morality and destitute of even a ray of
human emotion.The mere thought of Samantha being anywhere near Sudip is enough
for the audience to play along with the director’s vision of her dead lover
being reborn as a fly.
Hell why not ! Who will keep that Ravana off Sita otherwise
? The David of a Fly has quite an engineering brain as he plots the destruction
of his murderer.It helps that Samantha is herself a microartist and designs
eyelenses and protective gear for the Fly.Together they wreck havoc in the life
of Sudip,as they unleash one fury upon another over him in the course of three
weeks.
It is a very entertaining film.Like his later offerings
,Rajamouli has put reliance on action and special effects,and yet not forgotten
the importance of universal emotions.This is what makes the film so eminently
watchable for every section.The revenge of the underdog is anyway a hugely
popular theme,and once u get the cast right,it is a pretty safe bet.The Fly in
question is a worthy opponent to the seemingly indestructible antagonist.He has
unquestionable motive ,rightful intent,resourcefulness and the backing of the
audience as he brings about the ruination of Sudeep.SS Rajmouli is perhaps the
biggest showman in india right now,along with Raju Hirani.Sudeep has given a
marvellous performance,and what can one say about Samantha ? I dunt understand
why the Hindi version of the film,Makkhi failed at the box office.I absolutely
loved this film.
