Giuliano da Empoli has written a fabulous novel by the same name. Ben Mezrich has also written a great story on the days of the oligarchs and rise of Vladimir Putin. The film captures the beauty of Moscow and the Russian landscape, chaos and excesses in the 90s and the way of thinking of Kremlin in a very beautiful way. Jude Law as the Tsar, that is Putin, looks good. Paul Dano as the fictional insider, based upon an insider, Vlad Surkov, is outstanding. Will Keen has done a good job as Boris Berezovksy. Alicia Vikander has an important role too. The film is not too intense and just paints a basic picture of the period between 1996 and 2016. A lot of water has flown since then.
