Meryl and Shirley played daughter and mother in this beautifully crafted film. The mother was a successful actress; the daughter was reaching there but was distracted with existential angst. Drugs, broken relationships and parental issues held her back. Gradually, the duo came to terms with each other and realized that life's what is. The film is based upon Carrie Fisher's novel of the same name. Gene Hackman delivered a solid one as a supportive director. Streep, Shirley and Dennis Quaid made this one come alive with their performances. Meryl Streep was nominated for the Best Actress by the Academy for this one.
