Look Back in Anger 1959

John Osborne’s Look Back in Anger (1956)
is considered one of the greatest post-war plays. Richard Burton plays Jimmy
Porter, a middle–class man, harbouring deep existential angst against upper
class. This ‘angry young man’s’ wrath is directed against his upper-class wife
and her actress friend. Jimmy is disillusioned with his contemporary British
values and lifestyle, which he accused had stifled his potential. Burton gave an
immensely powerful performance. But then, Jimmy Porter is an irrepressible character and his numerous
dialogues have reverberated across the world over the years. Not a great film, but
for the lovers of the play, a massive treat.
