RAAKH 1978
#primevideo
Two rascals, Ranga and Billa, had abducted two kids, Sanjay and Geeta Chopra, who were on their way to local radio station, and raped and killed them. Mr. Chopra was an army man. This much of the plotline is true. Delhi 1978 is the setting. Rest all is fictional in this well-made webseries.
Rakesh Bedi continues his top form and delights here as Mutton-wale Bauji, Ali Fazal's dad. Ali is too bogged down into his role, trying to highlight casteism and discrimination and what not. Aamir Bashir and Sonali Bendre as parents of the dead kids are simply wonderful. Dibyendu Bhattacharya as the SP is a vital cog who keeps it all together. Anshul Chauhan plays a journalist with aplomb. Ramandeep Yadav is Rajjo, whereas Akash Makhija just kills it as Babu.
The makers had a great story and a successful formula at their disposal. That does not mean that you berserk and keep adding runtime as per your whims. The series should have folded in 6 episodes but runs on and on for 9! It tries to pontificate on social justice but fails. Altering history as per one's convenience can also be dubbed as tampering. That said, Raakh is a watchable series, and won't harm Ali Fazal's career.
