Christian Bale plays Moses with subdued fury. Joel Edgerton plays Pharaoh Ramses II with conviction. The two historical figures had been friendly while growing up. Moses was born a Hebrew during the time of extermination of Hebrew children. He was saved by his sister Miriam, a servant of Pharaoh's daughter. Gradually, Moses parts ways with Ramses, goes back to his people, the Hebrews, and works to improve their lot. He appeals the Pharaoh to free the slaves but the later obviously does not.
The film captures well the mythical ten plagues that strike the Egyptians, as well as the parting of Red Sea and Exodus of Hebrews. Malak, a young messenger, guides Moses throughout his path, and lays down Arc of the Covenant. Moses keeps leading his men to the Promised Land for years together. Ben Kingsley and Sigourney Weaver are wasted in cameos. Indira Varma, Aaron Paul and John Turturro have hardly anything to do. Bale is as solid as he always is. Edgerton does not commit many faults anyway.
