Ralph Fiennes looks every bit of an intellectual, a deep man who can move mountains with the movement of his eyebrows. His English diction is as perfect as I have ever heard. The man wears integrity on his sleeve like a school headmaster. Ralph Fiennes in a film is enough to serve as its recommendation. Set in Yorkshire during the first World War, this film centers around a choral society which prepares an oratorio performance of The Dream of Gerontius composed by English composer Edward Elgar. Amid great singing, characters acquire life of their own in the backdrop of war, conscription and hatred for all things German. This is a period film which manages to transport one to that era by capturing its zeitgeist.
