F1- A Brad Pitt Vehicle

 F1 (2025)

There is a growing list of motor-racing films that have captured imagination in the last few years- Rush, Gran Turismo, Ford vs Ferrari, Ferrari, and now F1. This is a nice sub-genre being created. F1 is the story of a veteran car racer who is handed the chance after three decades to come back to the top circuit and sprinkle some magic upon racetracks.

Brad Pitt plays his trademark cocky cool with such love you forget that this man is now getting to age. Javier Bardem, playing his ex-partner-cum-current boss is in fine elements. Damson Idris, Kerry Condon and Tobias Menzies have played their parts well. The racing sequences are quite well done. They take you to the car level and make you breathe burning tyres. Pitstops are tense places, planning rooms are arena for mental wrestling. Watching F1 felt better than playing F1. For Pitt, and for racing footages, it scores an A. There has been some criticism regarding portrayal of female characters, but that is utter garbage.

And yet, I'm surprised to see it among the Best Picture nominees by the Academy. I mean, that's a stretch!
