Parasakhti (Tamil)- Language Riots & a lot of Hatred

 PARASAKHTI 2026

This is the story of Tamil resistance against Hindi imposition. The story starts during late 50s. Students rise up against the high headedness of the north and burn down Hindi Pracharini Sabha office. Nehru is portrayed as a man of consensus who defers a solution till mid 60s. A KGB-trained IB Officer, half Tamilian, is sent to quell the rebellion but finds himself disgraced. Rebellion flares up again during LB Shastri's time. The CM of Tamil Nadu between 1963-67 is Bhaktavatsalam who proves to be the last Congress CM of the state, for he does not stand up against the Centre's decision to impose Hindi. Hinding behind 'unity in diversity', hooligans ran amok the state. Finally, Indira Gandhi during one of her visits to Coimbatore is persuaded by the agitators that people-at-large were not ready to learn Hindi to land with government jobs. Finally, the government conceded that English shall remain India's official language along with Hindi till eternity.

Sivakarthikeyan has done a decent job as the main protagonist. Ravi Mohan overacts as the IB sleuth. Prakash Belawadi as the wily CM is in his elements. Atharvaa gets noticed as Siva's brother. Sreeleela, in her Tamil debut, dazzles with her beauty. The film is quite provocative and needlessly spreads hate against Hindi. Although I'm not for Hindi imposition and certainly not for Hindi chauvinism, I do not buy too much stock in Tamil appeasement either. A lot of nonsense is peddled from north these days just as to appease the ever-frowning Tamilians. As a film, Parasakhti is watchable, but do not take its history to heart. It is a masala flick which dramatizes its politics in the election year.
