Mare of Easttown (web-series)- Kate Winslet as a Beleaguered Cop

 MARE OF EASTTOWN 2021

The thing with western cops is that they are either they are characterized as immoral and corrupt, or grumpy, depressed, troubled and honest. Kate Winslet is a grandma. Her son had committed suicide two years back. Her ex-husband is going out with someone else and has moved in the neighbourhood. She is a workaholic cop but has not been able to find the disappeared girl. You can see that she is on edge. She regularly snaps at her mother and always has a pint in her hand. It is hinted (thrown in your face by every other character) that she is yet to accept and confront her own grief, without which there is no moving on.

A lot happens in this seven-part series. A state cop arrives, falls for Kate and gets blown off. Guy Pearce, a visiting writer, hooks up with her, but is kept by her at arm's length. One criminal activity gets interweaved with another criminal enterprise. But every chicken must come home to roost. Mare of Easttown, the Lady Hawk, the local hero, solves the two cases and also owns up to her grief.

This is a very well-made series, obviously because Winslet's performance lights it up. Guy Pearce retains his charm. Rest of the cast, including Julianne Nicholson have done well. Easttown, a fictional town located outside Philadelphia, boats of beautiful locales. Families and relationships are portrayed in great detail and with sympathy. Watching the series leaves you very satisfied.
