GOODBYE JUNE (2025)
by
Kate Winslet
June is Helen Mirren, and she is dying. Her husband, son, three daughters, and grandkids surround her in her last days. Family rifts and issues rise to the fore, but do not explode out of control. With remarkable Englishness, Kate Winslet manages to keep it all under control. Her poise comes from her mother who has groomed her well. There is no story as such, but the film's strength lies in its treatment. Small wrinkles and long-kept memories cause strain in relationships. It is a game of expectation and denial. A mother wants her kids to take control of their lives. The son does not like that his father does not seem perturbed enough even as his mother lay on deathbed. Kate's son, Joe Anders, has written the script. The film would have been better served if it were shorter by 20 minutes.
