This film is based on a typical John Grisham novel of the same name. District attorney, courtrooms, lawyers and jargons like the Fifth Amendment thrown in with a lot of American ‘family and nation first’ flavour ticking in.

The client in question is a punk-ass boy who steals his mom’s cigarettes, loves Led Zeppelin and hates his alcoholic ‘ex-father’. He and his brother witness an attorney’s suicide and become a target of the mob who suspect them of being privy to the dead attorney’s secret. Tommy Lee Jones, the district attorney wants to question the kid to bring the gangster The Blade on trial and thereby gain media mileage. The boy though hires an attorney, Susan Sarandon, in an effort to stall his questioning as that would endanger his family.

Susan got nominated for the Oscar for this role. The film is very long and keeps running even after the family flies away on witness protection. Tommy is reliable as always, but the film is rather a low-key affair.
