EYE FOR AN EYE 1996

This film had everything going for it- a good revenge story, rape and murder, good actors at disposal and accomplished director at helm. Yet it fails to soar and rather unfolds like a contrived drama. Sally Field does not come across as resourceful enough to gain revenge by herself. Kiefer Sutherland is too calm, assured and predictable, and does not provide much resistance before being marked and hit. Ed Harris is too good to be wasted as a mere supportive husband. The film falters not at casting but at characterization. You can still watch it as an evening go-by.
