A family on a skiing vacation are enjoying an open-air breakfast one morning when an apparent/controlled avalanche strikes the very location where they were sitting The husband rushes to safety as the danger strikes, leaving her behind along with his kids to their own devises. This fills the wife with insecurity, nay disgust towards the father of her children, and she makes it a point to rub it in every time they talk or converse with outsiders. The wife won't just let go, and the husband would not admit. That is a dangerous standoff between the couple. Kids could sense prevailing tension between their parents, but can only watch on.

When disaster strikes, social contract dissolves and everyone is expected to fend for himself in whatever way is possible. This is termed as Force Majeure. The couple looks to resolve their differences by way of talking and meeting with different people, going on solo hiking and what not, but tensions persist. You cannot wish such life-altering events away. They end up scarring you for life. FM is a kind of film that forces you to introspect, one  that makes you realize that nature is inflexible, which nurture cannot mend.
