Anthony Hopkins, even in a cameo as Emperor Flavius Vespasianus (69-79 BCE), manages to set the tone of this series centred on Rome. His sons, Titus and Domitianus, are rivals to the throne. While the former is an accomplished soldier, the latter is a compulsive politician and a cruel man of intrigue.
The story is told through the eyes of a Numidian woman whose daughters have been picked as slaves, and her son is forced to fight as a Gladiator in the Amphitheater. Three Andalusian Brothers arrives with their horses, and become integral part of the world of chariot-racing. An upstart aims to earn enough through betting to begin his own faction (the gold, fifth) and enter the world of patricians.
This is a series which keeps you hooked through right dose of drama. Watching it won't hurt at all. Who does not like to be in Rome anyway?
