Taylor Sheridan has written Yellowstone, 1883, 1923, Sicario and its sequel and Wind River, and of course, Hell or High Water. After Aaron Sorkin, he is the most recognized writer in Hollywood today. Hell or High Water is a beautifully made western in which two brothers, Chris Pine and Ben Foster, loot many branches of Texas Midlands Bank in a bid to raise a definite sum so as to avoid bank takeover of their ranch and to provide child support.
Ben, the elder is wilder, whereas Chris is more devoted to his boys and ex-wife, and is definitely more level-headed. Jeff Bridges, about to retire is on their scent, along with his pal, Gil Birmingham. Jeff keeps cracking old style racist jokes on Gil's Comanche heritage, but it is obvious there is a bond between them. There is action, there is humanity, and there is a clear stand against banks and the capitalist set-up. Supported by beautiful, haunting music and capable cinematography, HHW was nominated for four Oscars, including Best Picture and Best Supporting Actor (Jeff), but didnt win anything.
