Salim Khan from Indore was a bit senior to Javed Akhtar from Saifia College, Bhopal.
Together the duo met each other in Bombay, and began writing scripts together.
One of the other, they wrote ten superhits before they delivered their first failure, that was Iman-Dharam.
In the meantime, they had churned out Deewar, Zanjeer, Sholay and many other hits.
The duo was quite upfront about their price, credits and went to the extent of charging more than Amitabh Bachchan for films. After their first flop, they churned out ten more hits on the trot. If any writer duo has attained success in Bollywood, it is Salim-Javed. No one before or after has commanded that kind of awe and respect.
The three-part documentary follows the careers, lives and philosophies of Salim Khan and Javed Akhtar. Their immediate families, stars, trade pundits and other bigwigs are tapped for views. This is not quite a hagiography, rather feels like a deserved celebration of two writers who came together by chance and delivered numerous hits in the changing times of 70s and 80s.
