JD Vance graduated from Yale in 2013. In 2016 was released his memoir by the same name, and by 2020, Ron Howard had directed this film. AT 39, JD Vance has been chosen to run as VP on the Trump Presidential ticket.There is something very special about JD.
The film recounts his early days. He was born in Ohio, but was raised by his mother and her parents in Jackson, Kentucky. Glenn Close plays her Mamaw, and Amy Adams her Mum. There is violence, poverty, addiction and lack of trying in the family. After struggling with her mum's shenanigans for some years, JD submits to her Mamaw's care where he understands life as it was, and how he wished it to be. This is the story of a hillbilly kid who comes out triumphant in life against all odds.
Close was nominated for Best Supporting Actor at the Oscars. Freida Pinto as Usha Vance, JD's soulmate and wife, is quite in it. This is a film that needs to be watched to appreciate that not every white man in America is born with a silver spoon and that life is what you make of it.
