This is the story of how Hotel Continental became the safe haven for legal assassins and passed under the influence of the High Table. In the 70s, the NY Continental was run by Cormac O'Connor, played in the series by Mel Gibson, who has begun to look quite tamed as he has aged.
Winston Scott, played by Ian Woodell, an Irish-American businessman living in London, displaces Cormac through a bloody coup, after Cormac gets his elder brother Frankie killed.Winston assembles a squad to carry out the coup and also gets boosted by the involvement of KD Silva, a lady detective sergeant who was looking for Winston and Lenny in connection with a decades old arson case in which her family was destroyed. Also playing a key role is Charon, who ditches his foster father Cormac and joins hands with Winston. This partnership remains strong in the JW series as well, until Charon gets killed.
Anyway, Winston gets the control, Cormac gets buried and instrumental in this victory is an instinctive theft of a coin-press by Frankie which falls into Winston's hands and helps him issuing IOU coins which provide him access to the Continental lodging and rig the hotel premises with his men.
With three episodes and nearly 300 minutes run-time, the Continental is a feast for the fans. For the uninitiated, can't say as much. Why not watch John Wick, maybe?
