Rajniti - Prakash Jha's Most Overrated Film?

 Rajniti 2010

Prakash Jha

It is all right to get inspired by the Mahabharata, but you can't rush through the scenes like Jha does. Every action or inaction has a context which must be debated, else what is the point? In the haste of wrapping up the film, Jha ends up serving a series of events and happenings which do not flow from each other, rather jump awkwardly.

Politics is not a T20 game. The cauldron must boil for events to take shape. But Jha has simplistic views. The chair is everything, it is only the leaders that count, people are followers and anything can happen- recipe for disaster?

None of the character has any depth. They all end up being caricatures. Everything happens on whims, and in the wish-karo-dish-karo manner. Ajay Devgn gets hyped up so much and delivers precious little. He keeps his mouth swollen throughout the film and looks terribly off-putting. Ranbir Kapoor wants to foist his disturbed brother in the saddle, and manages to, despite everything. Nana Patekar has Krishna-type of presence, but who he is one does not ultimately know! Manoj Bajpayee has the strongest presence but his role is moth-eaten and Devgn needly crawls into his scenes to share the space. Mani Ratnam's Dalpathi was a much better film. This one sucks quite bad!
