Full marks to Ashutosh Rana and Abhimanyu Singh for rounding off the edges in the web-series titled Khakee- The Bihar Chapter, based upon the life and work of Amit Lodha, IPS. Since this is a dramatisation, there is got be some exaggeration, but that is part of the deal. You can't serve the story as it is to the public, and a bit of self-aggrandizement comes with the territory.
Karan Tacker plays Amit Lodha himself, the infallible supercop, who is not blessed with a single flaw in his personality. On the other side is his arch foe, Chandan Mahto, played by Avinash Tiwari, who doesnt have a single saving grace in his character. It is here that sundry big actors come to the rescue and save the series from becoming an exercise in narcissism. Ashutosh Rana as a senior IPS, who is adapt as playing both sides, is pitch perfect in the role. Anup Soni plays the role of a serious-minded and straightforward cop with understated aplomb. Then there is Ravi Kishan who shines in a small role of a local kingpin. Abhimanyu Singh displays all shades as Lodha's subordinate, and holds the series together. Jatin Sarna (of Sacred Games fame) plays Chandan's prop, and has a key role. With mature treatment, damn good performances and sociological turn to the story, Neeraj Pandey has managed to serve a delightful treat. Bihar is a formula that cannot go wrong. Not if the casting is smart, that is, and dialogues do not fall down to the level of C-Grade cinema.
Khakee is a valuable addition to the Bihar Collection. One can hope for more servings.
