Al Pacino plays a middle level mobster, who is entrapped in a lifetime of loyalty and debt. An undercover cop, played by Johny Depp, infiltrates the gang through Pacino, and successfully breaks the operation after some time. Al Pacino, as the ageing, vulnerable and frustrated mafia operative, is quite a revelation. Depp impresses as a conflicted, brooding, shrewd cop, who manages to fool everyone around him. Lefty (Al )is taken in by Donnie's charm, but in the end, accepts his fate.
"If it was going to be anyone, I'm glad it was him" is what he left behind in a note. The dark film impresses, but does not wildly entertain. This is Al-Johny at their best. Watch it for their camaraderie.
