Forrest Whittaker plays a man who has just been released on parole. He was incarcerated for 21 years for killing Sheriff's deputy, and has been released after serving 18. The sheriff is still Harvey Keitel, and he has not forgiven the man who cold-bloodedly killed his friend.
The parole officer takes Forrest under her protection, but the going is tough. His friends want him to work for them. In the prison, he had converted to Islam, and this also raises suspicions of people around him. Forrest finds love, but everything is difficult for him now.
This is a marvellous story set in New Mexcio border town, and explores the themes of redemption and forgiveness. Keitel and Whittaker are brilliant as ever. Ellen Burstyn has a cameo.Brenda Blethyn as the parole officer is quite effective. This is the third Bouchareb film I have watched and enjoyed in a month. Go for it.
