Countdown to the Rains (Wildlife Documentary)- Waiting for Rains in Luangwa River (Zambia)

Countdown to the Rains (Wildlife Documentary) 2013

(#BBC2)

Seven months have passed by since it last rained. The whole valley is anxious. Tempers are flaring. The herbivores are in dire stress. Hippos feel the heat, elephants cant get enough to eat. Buffaloes are distressed. Impalas also need nutrition. When shall it rain?

But the carnivores make merry. Prey is easy to get by the river. A pride of lion is passing its days in comfort. Cubs are growing up. Wild dogs are camped nearby. Leopards sit pretty. Crocodiles have ample opportunities.

The documentary focuses on hunts, tussle between lions and hippos, rivalries between lions and hyenas and wild dogs, crocs vs hippos and lions' unease with stepping into water for fear of being attacked by crocs. There is an elephant whose stump/ trunk has been snapped off but he manages to get by.

This is a beautiful documentary as most wildlife documentaries are.
