The Father- Stupendous Hopkins in Deep Dementia

 The Father 2020

by

Florian Zeller

Anthony Hopkins plays a retired, proud engineer who is facing the wages of aging. Progressive dementia has set in. His behaviour oscillates between charming and nasty. He needs help, but doesnt want to accept. His world is falling apart, but he speaks as if he is charge.

The film takes us into the mind of the geriatric who is losing his grasp. Events and people get jumbled up. This confusing world is a scary place. The audience can relate with Hopkins because the story has been told from his perspective, and ends up making the audience uneasy as well.

Anthony is in top form. He shall, most likely, win the Academy Award for this effort. Olivia Coleman, his daughter, has also been nominated for Best Supporting Picture. Even the film is nominated in the Best Picture category, which i dont think it shall win.

Watch the Father to empathize with those who might be losing their minds. Might make one more patient and compassionate towards the seniors.
