Mammootty is an arrogant landlord, pampered by his minions, and tolerated by his wife. Boozing and womanizing are his ways of life. Raping is not beyond him. He dwells in the areas around southern Karnataka. A Keralite migrant falls into his clutches.

Mammootty beats him, makes him his servant, forcibly sleeps with his wife and tries to kill his own wife with the migrant's help. The servant follows the master everywhere in a relationship that calls for complete surrender. He even follows him in the jungle when the Master is forced to be on the run following the killing of his wife. But once the master is dead, he exults in his freedom. He comes to the corpse of his master, and throws away his gun into the river. This master-slave dialectic is quite absorbing.

This film won the National Award for the best Malayalam feature film at the National Awards. Mammootty won the  Best Actor. It is based on a short story by Paul Zacharia. Mammooty's swagger in the film is plain extraordinary.
