Guillermo del Toro dwells in a fantasy word full of love, colours and possibilities. In this film, he makes a janitor (Sally Hawkins, nominated Best Actress) fall in love with a humanoid amphibion, captured by the US Army from South American jungles, and being kept in a top-secret Cold War-times research laboratory in the Baltimore.
There are references to the Cold War, spy games, space race and what not, but deep down, it is just a tale of love and longing. G. del Toro won the Best Picture and Best Director Award for this film, whereas Sally Hawkins (Actress), Octavia Spencer (Supp. Actress) and Richard Jenkins (Supp. Actor) were nominated. Michael Shannon has also done his bit.
