Guillermo Del Toro dwells in a fantasy word full of love, colours and possibilities. In this film, he makes a janitor( Sally Hawkins, nominated Best Actress) fall in love with a humanoid amphibion, captured by the US Army from South American jungles, and being kept in a top secret Cold War-times research laboratory in the Baltimore.
There are references to the Cold War, spy games, space race and what not, but deep down, it is just a tale of love and longing. Del Toro won the Best Picture and Best Director Award for this film, whereas Sally Hawkins (Actress0, Octavia Spencer(Supp.Actress) and Richard Jenkins ( Supp. Actor) were nominated. Michael Shannon has also played his bit.
